Christmas Decorations for 2011

We used my little tree that I used in Arcata this year since we could not afford a bigger tree (which would of looked better in this bigger apartment). I was able to get Kennedy her Christmas Stocking - next year their names will be embroidered on them! The decorations on the garland above the stockings are Renelle and Kennedy's paw print and a Hallmark Pet picture Ornament of Renelle...oops! We need 2011 one for Kennedy.

I did something slightly different for the cards - this year I made it in to a tree shape.

This year I am joining my new CCI friend Wendy (she is a breeder/caretaker and puppy raiser) in this unique project: 2012 Photo Challenge (or Essay as I call it). She has created a theme for each week of the year, you can either take a picture for every day of the year - 365 day challenge or take one picture a week. I have opted for the one per week since this is the first time I am attempting this. In addition I am going to try my best to follow the themes Wendy posted, since some of them look very challenging. If you have ideas on how to complete some of these themes, feel free to send me your ideas!

There are about 125 people doing this project so there are plenty of photos to see. If you want to see what everyone is doing you can click on the title of this blog or click this link:

You can follow the group or just see what I am doing, whatever you prefer. Although I do take lots of photos they do tend to be of Renelle and Kennedy mostly. So this will help me branch out a bit in my photography. Each week I will post (in this blog) in a post all of its own my photo for that week. I will of course have a link to the group website and post my picture on there.

My equipment is a Canon Photo Shot A1100IS and quite possible a cell phone camera.

Happy Halloween!

2 years ago today Jay came over to my apartment and proposed to me! It was quite a surprise. Here is the link to that blog:

So much has happened in these 2 years. Renelle and I were matched in Team Training at CCI in April 2010, I was laid off from my job in October 2010, went to Iowa for Christmas and got a white one to boot! Jay was matched with Kennedy at GDA in July 2011, and we moved in together and moved to another city in July 2011.

We have met many wonderful people over the years, but most importantly we have grown together as a couple and as individuals. A lot more growth to come!

Kennedy's puppy raiser sent these costumes for the girls. Renelle was okay with it, just a bit small for my girl, however Kennedy......well the picture says how she feels! Plus it was too small for her. I think costumes for dogs are meant for the small dogs....

I then switched to the Halloween Bandana's that Renelle wore last year.

They seem to not mind these. but mined taking pictures!. I left them on the for the evening.

Apple Hill and Puppies!

Later Kennedy did as well, and watched out the window.

On our way back from Apple Hill we stopped by the Spicer's house to see them, Ina and her beautiful puppies. Can't wait to find out their names!

One point Renelle's head was over the edge of the pen she was almost nose to nose with Mr. Red (the color of their collars) when all of a sudden Mr. Red gave a high pitched puppy bark and Renelle jerked back her head in surprised and just looked at him.

Another time Renelle was watching Miss Green (the only girl out of six) crawl along the pig rail in our direction and Miss Green got to the point where she was under the pig rails at the corner of the pen and was out of Renelle's sight so Renelle started sniffing at the corner of the outside of the pen and then peered over the top again and back to sniffing the corner to try and figure out where she went. Renelle knew Miss Green was there she just couldn't see her.

Kennedy on the other hand took one look and wanted to go out and play with Ina and Sholie....Hum.....

We can't wait to go back out and visit with the Spicer's again and see the puppies before heading out to Puppy Raisers next month.

Mirari Brass Concert - Fundraiser for CCI

The Sacramento Memorial Auditorium is listed on the National Historic Register. The auditorium was constructed in 1926 and opened in February 1927. For over eighty years, with the exception of a ten-year closure from 1986-1996, the Memorial Auditorium has drawn audiences to a variety of events, from Big Bands and violin virtuosos to the Beach Boys and Rolling Stones. Since its reopening in 1996, the auditorium stage has welcomed artists such as Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Melissa Etheridge, comedians George Lopez, Mike Epps and Ron White and bands from The Doobie Brothers, The Moody Blues, and Duran Duran to Death Cab for Cutie and The Killers. A very nice PR took these photo's of me and Renelle.

The Little Theatre within the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium is where the concert took place.

I should of take photos of the Main Theatre - it was incredible!

Renelle and I listened outside the Little Theatre - it sounded better out in the Lobby.

by 8:30 Renelle was bored and ready to go home - hey, since I couldn't play with my friends, why stay here?

CCI 2011 Graduate Seminar in Santa Rosa

Show n' Shine & Fly in

The Gold Rush Chapter of CCI had a information booth and The Show n Shine and Fly and Renelle and I joined other members of the chapter talking to people about CCI and being a volunteer puppy raiser, breeder caretaker and the impact these volunteers have for us Graduates. There was such a variety of people from people who was interested in possibly volunteering and wanting more information about applying for a dog and what they can do to help them. It was fun being with other CCI people and Renelle enjoyed all the attention and time with other CCI dogs.

American River Parkway Native Plant Garden

Now that things are cooling down for Autumn, we have all decided it is time for some daytime hiking! So Renelle and I took a trip down to the American River Parkway Volunteer Center to get some information on hiking trails, etc along the American River (we live about a block from the river). We got a pretty cool map and some tips on beautiful Autumn foliage.

While we were at the Center we checked out their Native Plant Garden and saw some pretty plants and potential ideas for a native garden when we can afford a house (when we are 90 at this point). Going native makes it easy to conserve water and decrease invasive species that can choke off the native species (I learned a lot in Humboldt County!). Below are some pictures that I took.

Jay had an appointment with the DOR that was to last up to 2 hours, so Renelle and I took a walk up the street to the Sacramento Capitol Park, which is located behind the Capitol Building. It is a big park, so we stuck to one section. Enjoy the views!

We took the girls to the dog park for the first time. We were hesitant to go, but we thought we should at least take a chance. They had fun running and running and running.....

When we got home I washed their feet with warm soapy water. The hind legs were easier! They kept pulling their front legs out of my hand. LOL! We are planning to try to make this a weekly event so they can run and burn off some energy.

Canine Companions is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and the ongoing support needed to ensure a successful partnership, all free of charge."

Renelle and I had a lot of fun meeting new CCI friends. While it was hot (in the mid to high 90's) we are grateful to our new friends and are excited to be apart of a larger group of CCI friends than we had in Arcata. Here are some of our pictures of the event.

July 2011 Trip to LA: My Sister's Sabrina

We spent a couple days at my sister's in Crestline.

Renelle was very curious about her two boys (neither neutered at the time). Kodak is black and Odin is white. Kodak fell in love with Renelle. Aparently he laid down in front of the door to the bedroom and wouldn't move or obey any commands....giggle...who knew Renelle had that kind of impact on other dogs?!

Kodak did want a bit of attention from Renelle's person....

July 2011 Trip to LA: Donna and Coralie's

During summer gatherings, insects can be annoying pests. Repellents that can be obtained from stores contain harsh chemicals. Here are some natural insect repellents you can use around your family without the worry of poisoning from ingredients.

There are many herbs that are naturally repellent to insects. Some common household herbs are sage, cayenne, rosemary and basil. Cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, and caraway seeds can be combined into a dry mixture and used as a type of potpourri.

A tea made from chamomile flowers can be pressed onto the skin to keep mosquitoes away. Most insects greatly dislike cayenne peppers. Many other herbs and oils can be combined to make insect repellents as well.

A basic blend of oils can be used as a simple repellent. Combine one ounce each of rue, rosemary, basil and wormwood oils. Keep this in a container with an airtight lid. If kept in a small bottle it can be carried in your pocket. Be sure to test a small area first to discover if you are allergic to any of these ingredients, or not. Another herbal blend to use as a personal insect repellent is a half teaspoon of rosemary oil and half a pint of beer. This can be used as a spray or lotion.
To fumigate your house, red pepper can be used. Place a tablespoon of dried red pepper in about a quarter cup of water. Put this mixture into a container that can withstand heat. Place this over a lit candle or can of Sterno. If you have a device made to heat fragrant oil, this can be used as well.
Many insects dislike sage. To keep bugs away, tie bunches of dried or fresh sage. You can use wild or garden varieties. Hang these bunches around your house. Or, you can even hang them in frequently used parts of your yard or patio as an effective repellent.

Renelle and Kennedy get along wonderfully. Kennedy is still a puppy which makes her more hyper than Renelle. Hopefully in about a year she will chill a bit. We shall see what happens on the ride home.

Renelle's new Swamp Cooler Jacket

It is a nice fit for her.

Just soak it in cold water, wring it out, and fasten around your dog. Evaporative cooling (like an actual swamp cooler) exchanges the dog's heat with the coolness of the stored water in the coat to keep them comfortable, cool, and ready to run that extra mile. Or in our case handle the car drive without the AC full time.

No matter what position she is in. It worked well, I just had to add more water after about 3 hours into our drive from Willits to Danville. Tomorrow will be a major test.

Owners warned to protect their pets from overheating

Until last week, veterinarians had been appreciating the mild summer for one reason in particular ---- dog-related heat stroke had not yet made its appearance. But once the heat returned, so did the instances of dogs overheating and dying.

Dr. Laura Laxineta of the Valley Veterinary Clinic on Jefferson Avenue in Murrieta said two dogs died last week from heat stroke.

"We think people aren't aware of how the heat can affect their dogs," Laxineta said. "To see two back-to-back was just very upsetting."

Dr. Amy Carr, however, who works at California Veterinary Specialists, a Murrieta emergency clinic, said she was surprised that it's taken this long for the problem to re-emerge.

"I'm waiting for them," Carr said. "Last year we saw about 100. It's most definitely (a problem)."

The heat does not affect cats the way it affects dogs because cats have a natural ability to know when not to exercise as well as when they should remain in the shade and rehydrate.

Dogs, on the other hand, contend with a series of characteristics that put them more at risk of suffering from heat stroke: their coats are thick and heavy; when they pant intensely their muscles can become overwhelmed and swell, which makes it harder for them to breathe and cool themselves down; and their need to exercise and play can override their internal warnings to be calm and cool.

"Especially if they're playing with their owner, they're so loyal they want to stay with them," Carr said. "I've literally seen black labs run themselves to death."

Animals who are left unattended in vehicles are at the most risk, Carr said. Even with a cracked window, a dog's life can become threatened in a very short time.

"If it's even 90 degrees outside, you probably have about 10 minutes before it heats up to the point that your dog is really distressed," Carr said. "Just the fact that he's panting in the car increases the heat inside the car; he can be really distressed within 30 minutes and dead within an hour."

But dogs who appreciate sitting in the sun also are in danger of heat stroke ---- and the risks increase for young puppies and older dogs, who sometimes lose the ability to sense they are overheating. Dogs with short noses, such as pugs and bulldogs, and dogs whose origins are from northern territories, such as Alaska, are at still greater risk of succumbing to the heat.

Veterinarians said that an overheated dog will pant heavily and collapse to the floor. As the dog's internal temperature rises, the dog will have seizures, vomit or have abnormally loose, bloody bowels.

A pet owner who finds his dog exhibiting the most mild signs of heat stroke should douse the pet with cool to tepid water immediately. Pet owners should not use ice water because it will cause the blood vessels to constrict and prevent the blood from cooling, experts said.

Once wet, the pet should be rushed to the nearest animal clinic with the windows rolled down, the veterinarians said. Air conditioning in the car is not recommended for the same reason that ice water is not advised.

Once admitted, the dog will receive intravenous fluids that will help cool the dog's internal temperature.

If the heat stroke is more severe, the pets could face multiple procedures, which could cost their owners upward of $20,000, or die.

"It's really a disaster when it happens," Laxineta said.

Prevention is key, pet experts said. Dog owners should provide plenty of shade for their pets and consider putting a block of ice in the dog's bowl in the morning and refreezing it at night, or leaving out a play pool of water for their dogs to soak in. Veterinarians also recommend pet owners bring their dogs inside the house during extreme heat, noting that 85 to 90 degrees is the maximum temperature that a dog should be continuously exposed to.

And pet owners should not take their dogs for runs or to play outdoors during the day because that's when it's hottest, said. Dr. Jim Wentzel of VCA California Oaks Animal Hospital in Murrieta.

"It definitely happens every summer, and it can be lethal," Wentzel said. "So it's best to watch your dog very carefully."

Homeward Bound

The drive back to Arcata on Tuesday was nice and smooth. The A/C got tired around Ukiah and couldn't turn it back on until some time after Laytonville. However, by that time it was a good 15 degrees cooler than most of the drive.

Needless to say I had one VERY happy puppy when we got home! She sniffed a little around the living room and looked up at me with very shiny happy eyes, her mouth was open with a bit of her tongue hanging out and started her Tigger dance.

Jay got her a new squirrel and tree. She loved the one she got last year and played with it so much that the tree stuffing started coming out and the squirrel's squeakers no longer work.

I tired to put a video up but it has been over 5 hours and it has not loaded, so it will have to wait.

Monday in Danville

My Aunt took me to get new tires for my car. I barely went 2 feet and was amazed at how smooth the drive was! I guess I need to get new tires more often than every ten years. Later we had dinner consisting of Macaroni and Cheese (my Aunt's recipe, it was very good!) and veggies. Afterwards, the Decker men decided on a soak in the tub and my Aunt went out to sit with them. As for myself, I was hanging with Renelle and taking pictures.

My Aunt Ruby, Uncle Chris, Cousin Sean and My Uncle's Father Milton all hanging out in the pool and jacuzzi.

In the mean time Renelle was sniffing around the edge of the pool, but was not too keen on getting in.

Can you imagine 2 - 60 to 65 lb dogs in the backseat of this car for 6 to 7 hour stretches? Most of which is through hot inland summer weather. The return trip from picking up Jay is going to be miserable for Renelle and Kennedy.

One morning Renelle and I were going for a short morning walk (8:00 am it is was already hot out) we got to the end of the walk way to the sidewalk when we saw a female turkey in the next yard. It took one look at Renelle and started making a hooting sound and took off running across the street.

Apartment hunting in Sacramento

Okay. It was a rough drive down to my Uncle and Aunts in San Francisco area on Wednesday. We were running a bit late and it was a long, hot (my a/c is now temperamental), and bumpy ride. Poor Renelle was panting...black dog+heat=very unhappy miserable hot puppy! We stopped by CCI in Santa Rosa to pick up Renelle's yearly supply, to cool down a bit and let the AC rest.

We found our way to my Aunt and Uncle's new house, they were at a friends house for dinner, so we hung out in the back yard to cool down and watch Renelle sniff around. She walked up to jacuzzi and there was a cover on it. She took a step onto it and fell into the water and landed on the first step...she cooled down a bit quicker :-) She was surprised by the fall and stuck a bit close to me. After we cooled downed, we headed to In n' Out and Chipolte for dinner.

The next day, Thursday, we headed to Sacramento, it was another hot day! We dropped Renelle off at Merri's and Betsy's house for the afternoon. Betsy was very excited to see Renelle, but it took Renelle a few moments to place Betsy and then off they went. Jay and I headed to our first of 3 appointments. The first one was a two bedroom (which later we learned was not a very good area at night), the second one was a three bedroom 1 3/4 bath, the third was a 2 bedroom/2 bath. We put an application in one the 3 bedroom. Around 4:00 we headed back to Merri's and Renelle was thrilled to see me. Joyce was there and her and Merri made dinner, so we got to catch up a bit. It was SOOO nice to see them! We headed back to my Aunt and Uncle's house to relax and cool down.

Friday, we dropped Renelle off and CCI PR Sarah and family while we drove around and looked at another 4 apartments. It was hot again. We saw a couple 2 bed/2 bath and checked out a couple other places we drove by to see the prices, but didn't go in. We did put another application down on a 2 bed/ 2 bath on the bottom floor. We went by another place that had a 3 bed/2 bath, but they could not it to us at that time and asked if we could come back on Sunday, so we decided Renelle and I would go by after we saw Jay off to Sylmar for Guide Dog Training. 4:00 arrived again and we headed to pick up Renelle from Sarah's and Sarah enjoyed watching how excited Renelle gets when she sees me. We chatted for bit as Jay and I cooled down before heading back to my Aunt's. LOL! Renelle REALLY kept close to me, she wanted to make sure I did not leave without her.

Sunday after watching Jay get on the plane Renelle and I went to see another 3 bed/2 bath and put an application in.

It was pretty hot our entire time inland, I appreciate the beach cities much more now!

Pet travel tips for safe summer getaways

Traveling with pets is increasing in popularity. And although bringing the dog along might be fun, it also comes with a certain amount of responsibility, especially during the hot summer months. Famed veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker shared a few tips to keep your dog safe during summer travel.

In the car

- Secure your dog in the seat: Keep your pet safe in a comfortable crate or carrier, or use a canine car harness that attaches to your seatbelt. Barriers are popular, too, but choose carefully: Some are too flimsy to protect dogs and people in case of an accident. Also, keep pets out of the front seat unless they are secured in a booster seat with the air bag off.

- Bring toys: Dogs have a tendency to get bored in the car and this can lead to destructive behavior. Bring along pet toys and puzzles to keep them occupied.

- Carry an emergency first aid kit: Carry an emergency kit with first aid supplies (talk to your vet about pain-relief and tummy-upset medications), a muzzle (hurt pets can and do bite!) and extra food and water. Your pet should have an ID tag with your cell phone number on it, since a home phone will do no good if you're not there.

On a plane

- Check with your airline well in advance of travel: Not all airlines allow pets, and others limit the number of animals per flight, both in the cabin (for small pets in carriers that fit under the seat) and in cargo. You will also need for your pet to see your veterinarian no more than a few days before flying, to get a health certificate to present at check-in.

- Bring a secure carrier or crate: If flying in the cargo area make sure pets are in strong carriers that are well ventilated, and just big enough that a dog can stand up, lie down, and turn around comfortably. Be sure all fasteners are in place and tightly secured to prevent the carriers from snapping open and allowing your pet to escape. Bring zip-ties to the airport to secure the door at check-in. You will not be allowed to have anything in the crate except simple bedding, such as shredded newspaper.

- Choose direct flights if possible: If your pet needs to make a connection, call the airline to check that your pet was loaded on the second plane. In warm weather, over-night flights are preferred; in winter, daytime. Try to avoid peak travel periods, such a holidays or Mondays.

- Never ship a short-nosed dog or cat: Breeds such as bulldogs or Persians fall into this group. The vast majority of pets who die in transit come from these types of pets, who have difficulty breathing and staying cool.

At the beach

- Check for pet-friendly beaches and obey the rules: Some beaches allow pets off-leash always, or at certain times or year or hours. Bring your leash, fresh water, shade and clean-up bags. Toys such as the Cool Kong or other floating toys are great for retrieving, so bring them along. Tennis balls also float, so bring a Chuck-it.

- Pay attention to water conditions: For dogs who do like to swim and are good at it (such as retrievers) be aware of tides, current, rough water and high waves. Enforce "time outs" to ensure your dog isn't becoming exhausted: Even good swimmers can drown.

- Watch for hot sand: Protect them with booties. A unique new product is the Planet PETCO LuvGear booties with TempAlert technology. These not only prevent the paws from abrasions or serious burns, the TempAlert patch lights up to let pet parents know when the outside temperature becomes too unsafe and the dog is at risk for heat stroke.

- Protect pets from the sun: Protect ears and lightly furred patches with waterproof children's sunblock. White dogs may need to be protected over their body by pet clothes, or even a simple T-shirt.

Other tips

- You might be traveling into an area that poses health risks for your pet your pet you don't face in your hometown. For example, you might be traveling into an area that has a lot of external parasites such as fleas and ticks or heartworm disease (carried by mosquitoes) and need to protect your pet. Ask your veterinarian what products you should use before you go and while you're gone.

- Many pets get motion sickness. You can ask your veterinarian about products that act like an invisible cork to prevent car sickness.

- If you're going to be on a boat this summer, don't forget to have a life vest for your furry friend. Most dogs are tempted to jump off into the water for a refreshing dip, but whether they prefer the chilly water or just kicking-back on board, a life preserver should be part of their permanent style. A dog flotation vest would help protect them in or out of the water.

- Don't forget to keep them hydrated with portable bowls throughout the day.

Here's more information from Mars' DogBlog (written from Mar's point of view) last year about heat. I get hysterical when I see dogs left in cars now that I know the facts of how fast it heats up:

FACT: A dog's normal body temperature is around 101-102 degrees Fahrenheit. An over-heated dog can suffer heat stroke if its temperature rises above 104 degrees, which can happen very fast in a hot car and is often fatal.

FACT: Dogs don't tolerate high temperatures; we depend on rapid breathing to exchange warm air for cool air. When air temperature is close to body temperature, trying to cool ourselves by panting isn't effective. If the temperature in the car is over 100 we're in big trouble.

FACT: Short-nosed breeds like pugs, Boston terriers and bulldogs are especially sensitive to heat.

FACT: According to a study by San Francisco State University professor Jan Null, here is the average elapsed time and temperature rise in a car (and leaving the windows cracked did not significantly change the numbers):

10 minutes ~ 19 deg F

20 minutes ~ 29 deg F

30 minutes ~ 34 deg F

60 minutes ~ 43 deg F

1 to 2 hours ~ 45-50 deg F

FACT: If the outside temperature is 85 degrees when Rover is left in the car, the inside temperature will be 104 in ten minutes, 114 in 20 minutes and 119 in 30 minutes. Rover doesn't stand a chance. I don't even want to do the math for anything longer than 30 minutes!

FACT: Trust me on this: we would MUCH rather stay home in our nice cool house with a bowl of water and a chewy bone than go with you on your errands. If you insist on taking us, it's for some selfish reason on your part, not because of a need on ours.

FACT: Dogs can also become overheated when exercising. Please don't take us for a run or a romp at the park during the hottest part of the day. Also, be sure to take water for us as well as for yourself.

FACT: We love our crates, but please use the wire ones in the summer so we get plenty of air circulation. Marianne even has a fan for mine!

FACT : Most dogs would probably rather be indoors, but if you must leave Rover outside, be sure he has plenty of shade, a cool surface to lie on and lots of cool water.

FACT: We can burn the pads of our feet on hot pavement or sidewalks. Take off your shoes and test it - if it's too hot for your feet it's too hot for ours, and definitely not a good time for a walk or run. Service dogs sometimes wear boots to protect our paws from summer heat. I'm not crazy about mine but I'd rather not have burned paws!

FACT: Your stuff is fun for you, not us. We do NOT want to go to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival (or any other similar festivity) this weekend. Please don't make us go! (Marianne says that even though she will be working at the 7News booth at the CCAF I will stay home - thank Dogness!)

FACT: No dog enjoys fireworks. Honestly, what are people thinking when they take Fido to the Fireworks display? IT FREAKS US OUT. It's loud, it's bright, it's scary and we don't understand the charm of it. Again - your stuff, not ours. Leave us safely at home with some nice music on the radio and a frozen stuffed Kong.

Renelle was sniffing around as we were waiting for Tash and Debbie to arrive.

As soon as Renelle saw Tash she took off right to him. Debbie was only able to take off Tash's leash and they took off chasing each other all over the park...Debbie was finally able to get his vest off. These two were full of energy and having fun playing with the ball. I love watching Renelle have fun.

She was ready to head home and have dinner. After she ate she laid down on the couch and fell asleep almost instantly. She is still pretty tired.

Jay and Amanda got together and threw me a Birthday party today. Jay's idea was to make it into a 4th Birthday! :-) It was quite cute. So we had saltine crackers, Honey Nut Cheerios, Sugar Cookies, Amanda made a Chocolate Cake with ice cream.

We had awesome company, great conversations and a fun time. It was a beautiful sunny day here in Northern Humboldt County today, so here are the pictures of a fun day!

Childhood musings

Since my 40th birthday is literally a few days away, Jay has been asking a lot of questions about what I liked as a kid from food to TV shows to toys. So I thought I would do some musings here:

Food:
The food I remember most was fried chicken with mash potatoes and brussel sprouts. I remember on all the different holidays, my mom Karen, would make sugar cookies and put frosting on them. For example for St. Patrick's day she made shamrock shaped sugar cookies with green frosting. I also remember we would have hot dogs or bologna sandwiches with Fritos for lunch. I also remember her making sun tea out of Lipton tea. Honey Nut Cherrios was my favorite breakfast cereal and loved it when my dad made his AWESOME Belgian Waffles (from scratch) we would have it with vanilla ice cream and yummy strawberries. Oh! I remember on Fridays, Chris (my older brother, back then he was actually nice to me) and I would make pizza at home and when Dad came home from work we would eat and then go out an get an album (a vinyl that is!).

Now a days my food taste is a bit different as many of you know. However I still love Honey Nut Cheerios, mash potatoes, brussel sprouts, my Dad's AWESOME Belgian Waffles, pizza, and sugar cookies with frosting (I can not make a decent frosting though!) plus much more!

TV Shows and movies:

My very first movie in an actual theater was Disney's Pete's Dragon! I still love that movie, sadly I do not own it. TV shows...hum....I remember Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse and Green Acres. Funny thing about Green Acres, I can not sit down to watch it without Saltine Crackers! That is because I remember sitting to watch it and my mom Karen, would give me Saltine Crackers as a snack.

Today's favorite shows consist of CSI and others you can find on my Amazon Wish list (the link is on this blog).

Books:
My favorite book as a child was Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. I also loved the Golden Book The Bunny Story.

Now my favorite author of all times is Jane Austen. I also enjoy Sir Arthur Cohan Doyle and Margery Allingham.

Toys:
Favorite toys as a child were the Little People Play House (I had the School room, and the House - and these were the wooden ones, not the crappy plastic they have today!), Baby Chrissy Doll, Holly Hobbit, and the little stuff animals. :-) I remember may Dad bring home boxes and I would make doll houses out of them and play for hours on the stairs with my little stuff animals...funny I preferred those over Barbie, however I still liked Barbie.

That is all I can remember at the moment, I am sure I will remember more as Jay continues to ask questions.

A Visit to my friend Maureen's in February

Renelle and I had a trip to CCI in Santa Rosa in mid February so Renelle could see Dr. Ruth Daniels, CCI Vet, for help with her weight issues. While we were there we stayed with our friend Maureen, who is the Breeder Caretaker (BC) for Delhi - retired, and Puppy Raiser (PR) to Delhi's daughter from her last litter Shannon. Below are some pictures of the dog's play time and the sweet pack Maureen has at home.

Renelle REALLY wanted some beef, however she was unable to partake due to her current health status. Maybe a piece next year.

What is that sound? ------------Alert time! Seriously I am alerting her, the timer went off and as usual she didn't hear it, but then that is why I am here. I did get a piece of chicken for my effort! Love my person!

PLEASE!!!!!! Sigh, oh well, I did get petted by my Person and Jay.

Hail Storm 3/16/2011

The weather has been a bit crazy around here. Here is the hail storm that was predicted for today along with some thunder. However, I have not seen any thunder storms yet. This hail storm started a few minutes after Renelle and I returned from our afternoon walk.

Loving their Christmas Gifts. Renelle was happily making her new Hedge Hog squeak and Jay was looking forward to listening the a Bard.

Christmas Eve called for more snow on the ground and Renelle was intrigued by the smell of the squirrels, so she continued her search for them.

Christmas in Iowa 12.20.2010

Jay, Renelle and I spent Christmas 2010 in Iowa with his parents. It was the first time Renelle and I flew together. We had a interesting experience, over all the fly aspect was good. The problem we experienced was the lack of reasonable accessibility to toliet an assistance dog. In Denver (I discovered in the last couple days) is a joke, It requires a 3o minute bus drive to a completely different terminal, and would need to go through security all over again. No one (outside of a nice United Airlines pilot named Bryan who is familiar with CCI and wants to be a PR) was helpful and so Renelle did not go toliet for around 17 hours (she refused to go pee on the cement or anything other than grass, wood chips or snow).

Below is the first day we were there. Renelle was raised in Ohio, so snow is not new to her, she LOVED it!

Renelle returns to the snow, only in Iowa rather than Ohio. She had a blast!

I had told God that if we were spending Christmas in Iowa, the least he could do was provide for a White Christmas....Thank you!

It was absolutely beautiful!

It was snowing, although in this picture it looks like a blizzard with the snow blowing at an angle.

Snow flakes on a black dog, makes for a magical looking dog.

This is one of their neighbors house, reminds of the pictures of a German winter.

Got Jay out of bed to join us. Renelle loves playing chase (good exercise to run in the snow!) and with Jay.

We went shopping for a portable crate for Renelle.

Of course Jay had to play with the dog toys and the squeaking got Renelle all excited and she picked this one to take home...thanks Jay.

Considering I just un-poped it, it is a little crooked but it will work for our purposes.

She hung out in it for a little while. I think she liked the fact that the door is not readily available to be closed behind her.
