Hum.....No got nothing.

Hi!

Not much to say at the moment. I'm finding my way around Arcata. Meeting some really nice and interesting people. My classes are interesting still. I am starting to have quizzes now, which is helping me get my head around what the professors want.

My math class is taught by a student teacher and the class is fairly large, so they added another class at the same time to give students the option to have more one on one instruction, so I signed up for that section. It starts on Monday, so we shall see if that helps with my anxiety over this stupid class. Did I mention I hate math?

The weather is starting to get nicer, even at night! I am nice and snug in my bed with Hollywood blue sky's and glowing orange nights dancing in my head...j/k. I am snug and warm in bed and a bit cold when I first get out of bed, but not as bad as in the first two weeks I was here.

Well, I have lots of homework to do and I need to get a vacuum cleaner today.

Peace!

Happy Birthday

A very Happy Birthday to Rick!
Enjoy!
Peace

I made it through the week....I think.....

Good evening my fine family and friends!

Well, I made it through the first week of classes. I am enjoying my classes on a whole.

However, I definitely am not fond of Math.....what sucks is I have to take these math course all over again! Argh! I have never used algebra in any form in over 9 years since I was forced to take it the first time, so what is the point?! No Arlene I don't want any cheese....(rolling the eyes).

Okay enough venting (which is what that is Arlene).

History 210 has a lot of work and I mean A LOT, but it will be good. Must...learn...how....to...research.... :-)

Everything else is just cool.

However I do miss LA.... my family, my parish (which sings normal songs and it is a real choir), the warm weather...it is warm right? Please tell me it is! RDA...oops did I say that?!

Happy Birthday Rick!

Okay! That is enough for now.

Peace!

Hey all,

Just a short one to say I got History 210 (Introduction to History)! Yea!!!!!! Now, I will not be behind in my classes for my major. Sigh.

Frozen! or close to it!

Hi all,

The last two nights have been down right FREEZING. Thursday and Friday morning I woke up to ice on my car! I'm not sure if some of you remember about 7 or so years ago in the South Bay we woke up to a thin layer of frost on our cars? Well, think of that plus your freezer (prior to self defrosting ones) and that is about it.

Not only that, but my apartment is on the ground floor and my bed is on the floor. Needless to say, I have been very cold at night. It has been better the last couple nights because I finally finished crocheting my blanket, so added another layer of warmth.

However, by mid afternoon it's pretty nice. I'm wearing my Lands End Squall Jacket and wearing a pair of my many mittens (thanks Darlene for your addition, they work great!) I'm nice and warm.

Well, I registered for classes today and so far I have the following:

MWF:
Elementary Algebra (Yuck! I have to retake it because it didn't transfer, what a waste of my time).
Jazz: An American Art Form (this will be cool, although I do think it is also an art form in France, this will satisfy my upper division ge).
Maybe Introduction to History (this is a mandatory class and I will find out on Wednesday if I can get in).

MW:
Computer Research in History (this is also mandatory and is a 3 week course starting February 12).

TTH:
Analyzing Mass Media Messages (this will satisfy an upper division general education requirement).
Ecological Change in North America (this will also satisfy an upper division ge).

So not to bad. Couple of fun classes and one not worth mentioning.

Peace!

Road Trip Day Two - 4 January 2007

Alright! I made it!

It rained last night in San Francisco, which was very cool. I loved it! (Of course most likely I will get sick of the rain but for the moment, I’m enjoying it). I kept waking up during the night (which I always do when in a strange bed, so please my dear Uncle and Aunt don’t take it personally), anyway, I finally rolled out of bed around 6:30 am and left around 7:30 am, traffic was a bit heavy going in to San Francisco its self, but other than that it was clear sailing.

It was a beautiful drive lots and lots of green with some brown in between it was raining off and on through out the day. I stopped for lunch and gas in Willits around 11:00 am. I went to McDonald’s this time…way better food than Denny’s! As I relaxed for a bit I noticed dark gray rain clouds coming down from the north and decided to get back in the road.

The Redwoods were stunning! I drove through the winding roads of the Redwoods wishing I could stop and take a really good look, but I didn't I just wanted to get to my apartment and crash. Humboldt Bay is equally as beautiful right there along the Pacific Ocean. I haven't seen the ocean so calm. I'm used to the crashing surf in Redondo Beach.

I finally made it to Arcata around 2:30 pm after 7 hours of driving! I was exhausted. Once I moved everything in I blew up my bed (thank you Eddie Bauer for instant comfort!) made it and rummaged through my meager food storage ate and crashed. Of course I was shivering through out the night and around 3:00 am I finally got up, but on my sweats added my bathrobe to the top of my bed clothes and turned up the heat! It took about 10 minutes but I finally stopped shivering although my head was still cold. I resolved that situation the next night and wrapped my head in my sweat shirt. What a sight! All one could see (if anyone was there) was my nose. However, I haven't shivered since!

Peace! C-

Road Trip Day One - 3 January 2007:

Well, it is about 1:25 pm and I have stopped for lunch at Denny’s (not the best food, but I need to sit and stretch out my legs. I just drove almost 175 miles non stop and have about 250 left.

Okay, I admit I cried as I drove away from the house and was heading for the 405 freeway. I almost cried when Spenser hugged me and said he will miss me, but I stopped myself because I knew if I started I wouldn’t stop. The tears fell down my cheeks and dripped from my jaw as I drove up Prospect. Sniffling and wiping my chin and face with the back of my hand I turned to the faith that brought me to this day and pulled out the Rosary that my long lost friend Michelle gave me as a gift when I joined the church and prayed the Glorious Mysteries. I felt comforted by doing this, but the sadness remains. I am ready for this move and this adventure that is before me, far more ready than I was when I first moved out of the house 10 years ago. I’m not going to speculate on what might have been, just what is now.

Enough of that. It took about an hour to get from Redondo Beach to the Santa Monica freeway and as I drove I asked myself why I was leaving LA again, oh yeah the traffic! Any way I drove past the place just before the 210 Freeway where my radiator blew up after the fan attached to it broke off from the body of the fan (oh joy what memories!) Just as a precaution I checked out my gauge...all was well. I saw signs for Magic Mountain and was almost tempted to take a detour and have some fun! But I didn't...I decided to leave the fun to my God Sisters who are in LA this week (I'm disappointed that I missed them AGAIN!) Drove through the desert for a while and then I actually saw a scattering of cows! Then nothing but dead fields….I guess it has something to do it with being winter (I haven’t a clue about that), over all a boring and smelly drive.

Well closing for now got to eat and hit the road again!

Okay…Denny’s is the worst food I’ve ever had! Yuck never again! It is almost 9:00 pm. I’ve arrived in Danville (a suburb of San Francisco) around 5: 30 exhausted. My Aunt and cousin were waiting for me and my Uncle was not off of work yet. Boy it is good to see them! They have very good hearts and souls. Anyway, my brother Spenser called me around 3:30 pm to let me know he passed his drivers test! CONGRATULATIONS SPENSER! According to Mom he wanted to go and drive to one of his friends after he got home and of course she was worried (that is until he arrived home safe and sound). Was she this worried with me? I wonder….

Okay, the drive continued to be boring and it got to be REALLY stinky. At one point (as I was driving mindlessly along this boring, brown and straight highway) it started to smell (I swear I can smell it in my hair right now!) and out of the corner of my eye I saw cows and took a double take. It wasn’t just 20 cows scattered around 5 or 6 acres, but 4 to 5 thousand cows all jammed together in I don’t know how many acres….it was just an awful lot of cows in a small space, hence the awful smell.

Well, I’m off to bed another LONG drive tomorrow, hopefully not stinky and brown.

Peace!

Happy New Year! Belatedly.......:-)

Okay, so I'm a day late...I've been lazy and busy (if you can be both). Well, the car is packed (and I mean packed!) Thanks Dad! I couldn't do it without you.

Lets see...Car packed - check, Full tank of gas - check, car safety inspected - check, money for gas - check, cell phone charged - check, hum....I am certain I am missing something......I'll find out when I get to Arcata.

Anyway, New years eve was quite in our house. My younger sibling had some friends over, mom was sick, the rest of use played on our respective computers (and I worked on packing and cleaning at the same time....am I talented or what! - That is not a question Rob - it's a statement). Midnight hit we came out of our caves and wished each other a Happy New Year and then retreated back to our nice snuggly warm caves...(I'm surprised I stayed up until midnight, I'm usually asleep by then). New Years day was spent cleaning, packing, taking down the Christmas decorations, Mom stayed in bed and not one of us watched the Rose Parade.

Well, my year has started off busy and allergy filled, got to love those dust bunnies! I think it will continue to get interesting...
